The purpose of Square One Ministries is to bring individuals to biblical faith that they might know God as their heavenly Father, and receive eternal life through Jesus Christ.
And this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent. John 17:3 NKJV
God has called me to help bring persons to biblical faith in Him by helping them discover what they really believe about God, which is not necessarily what they proclaim to believe about God. This is done by helping them recognize whether their faith is built on “knowing” God personally, or whether it is built on merely knowing about Him. In other words, has the individual ever had a genuine encounter with the living God?
In John 17:3 Jesus prays the following to the Father: “Now this is eternal life, that they may know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.” God speaks similarly through the prophet Jeremiah: “… but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know Me, that I am the LORD…” (See Jeremiah 9:23-24). In both instances, the New Testament Greek and the Old Testament Hebrew, the word “know” refers to knowledge that comes about through experience. To know God is so much more than intellect alone.
Years ago the Open Bible edition of the scriptures contained a chart with the heading, The Heart of the Jews, regarding how one is to live life by walking in godly wisdom. In logical sequence it stated you cannot have faith in God without first trusting Him, and you cannot trust God without first getting to know Him in an intimate and personal way.
The process begins when you experience your initial encounter with God. Intimacy and trust follow as you establish a daily pattern of fellowship with God. Such fellowship is accomplished in various ways, e. g. praying, meditating on the Word, and interacting with others who have come to faith. Also imperative is hearing from a proclaimer (preacher), who has himself previously come to biblical faith through the hearing of the Word. Romans 14b declares, “How shall they hear without a preacher?”
By His grace, God has infused me with biblical faith through the hearing of His word, and has called me to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to hearers. I thank God that He has assigned me to do so at the Virginia Beach Correctional Center.
